Srinagar/Jammu: In a significant development for medical aspirants in the Union Territory, the Health and Medical Education Department (H&ME) of Jammu and Kashmir has formally referred 480 posts of Medical Officers to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) for direct recruitment.
The official communication, issued on Tuesday from the Civil Secretariat, confirms that the requisition has been made under the J&K Health and Family Welfare (Gazetted) Service Rules (SRO 325 of 2013).
Vacancy Breakdown (Category-Wise)
The department has provided a clear distribution of the 480 vacancies across various categories. The breakup is as follows:

Strict Conditions for Aspirants
To prevent seat blocking and legal complications, the department has requested JKPSC to incorporate specific conditions in the upcoming advertisement notification:
PG/Tenure Restrictions: Selected candidates will not be permitted to continue their Postgraduate (PG) courses or tenure positions (such as Senior Residency, Registrarship, or Demonstratorship) after selection.
One-Time Option: Candidates currently pursuing such courses will be given a one-time option: either accept the Medical Officer appointment OR continue their ongoing studies/tenure. They cannot hold both simultaneously.
Mandatory Peripheral Service: Upon appointment, Medical Officers will be mandatorily required to serve in peripheral and far-flung areas of J&K to ensure equitable healthcare delivery across the region.
