Uncertainty continues to loom over the declaration of Class 10th, 11th, and 12th results in Jammu and Kashmir as the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) remains without a Chairman. The absence of the Board’s top authority has stalled the mandatory Result Declaration Committee meeting, a crucial step required before officially announcing examination results.
According to senior officials, the delay has created confusion and anxiety among thousands of students and parents across the Union Territory, even as the evaluation process has reportedly reached its final stage.
Result Declaration Linked to Chairman-Led Committee
A top official told Greater Kashmir that JKBOSE results cannot be declared without convening a meeting of the Result Declaration Committee, which is traditionally chaired by the Chairman JKBOSE.
“Before declaring the result, a meeting of the Result Declaration Committee is convened to finalise the results and resolve any issues pertaining to them. Since JKBOSE is currently without a Chairman, there is no clarity regarding the declaration of results,” the official said.
The committee plays a key role in approving the final merit lists, addressing discrepancies, and authorising the official announcement of results.

Government Delay Leaves JKBOSE Without Leadership
The leadership vacuum at JKBOSE has been caused by delays in the appointment of a permanent Chairman. As earlier reported, the Jammu and Kashmir Government on December 13, 2024, reconstituted a Search Committee to recommend candidates for the posts of Chairman JKBOSE and Director, State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
The Search Committee conducted interactions with shortlisted candidates on April 4, 2025, following which a panel of three candidates for each post was submitted to the government for final selection.
However, despite the completion of the selection process, no appointment was made, and the validity of the panel expired after six months, leaving both institutions in limbo.
Temporary Charge Ends With Superannuation
During the delay in appointing a permanent Chairman, the additional charge of JKBOSE was being managed by Shantmanu, former Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), Higher Education Department (HED).
Shantmanu, however, attained superannuation on December 31, 2025, after which JKBOSE was left completely headless, further complicating the result declaration process.
“At such a crucial juncture, the government should not have left the institution headless. The charge of Chairman JKBOSE should have been assigned to an officer of equivalent rank until a permanent appointment was made,” the official said.
Results Were Expected in Early January 2026
Officials revealed that JKBOSE was fully prepared to announce the Class 10th results by January 6 or 7, 2026. The delay in holding the Result Declaration Committee meeting has now pushed the timeline into uncertainty.
Earlier, JKBOSE had planned the following schedule:
- Class 10th (Annual Regular 2025): First week of January 2026
- Class 12th: Third week of January 2026
- Class 11th: Last week of January 2026
“The results were meant to be a time-bound process. Any delay has its own academic and psychological implications for students,” the official added.

The delay impacts a massive student population across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh regions.

Examinations Held Amid Academic Disruptions
The Annual Regular 2025 examinations for Class 10th to 12th commenced in November 2025. Recognising the academic disruptions faced by students during the session, JKBOSE had earlier announced a 15 percent relaxation in the syllabus for Classes 10, 11, and 12.
Students and teachers had welcomed the decision, but the uncertainty over result declaration has now overshadowed that relief.

Students, Parents Demand Immediate Government Action
With JKBOSE functioning without a Chairman, education stakeholders are urging the government to take immediate administrative measures, either by:
- Appointing a permanent Chairman, or
- Assigning temporary charge to a senior officer to ensure timely result declaration
Any further delay, they warn, could disrupt college admissions, competitive exam preparations, and the academic calendar for 2026.
Conclusion
As the results reach their final stage, the absence of leadership at JKBOSE has become a critical administrative bottleneck. Students who appeared in the Class 10th, 11th, and 12th Annual Regular 2025 examinations continue to wait anxiously, hoping for swift government intervention to end the uncertainty.
