In a landmark development for the education sector in Kashmir, Srinagar is set to receive its first state-of-the-art school dedicated exclusively to specially-abled children.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, announced that the institution, named “Abhinandan School,” will be a unique facility designed specifically for children with visual and hearing disabilities.1 This school will be the only one of its kind in the region and will cater to the needs of specially-abled children from across the entire Kashmir division.

Speaking to the media, DC Labroo described the Abhinandan School as a “major and special project” for the district.

To ensure the project meets the highest standards, multiple departments—including R&B, Power, Water, Revenue, Police, Planning, and Social Welfare—are working in close coordination.

  • Completion of Projects: The primary focus will remain on completing all sanctioned projects in Srinagar. DC Labroo emphasized that projects with approved funds must not be stalled midway.

  • Urban Development: The administration will focus on last-mile connectivity, traffic decongestion, and ensuring the optimal use of land free from encroachments.

  • Social Welfare Upgrades: Recent upgrades have already addressed needs related to education, sports, and health camps for the specially-abled community.

During the interaction, DC Labroo also expressed concern over the rising number of fire incidents in Srinagar city. He issued a strong advisory to residents:

  • Precautions: He warned against the careless use of electrical equipment and advised against keeping dry grass near homes, which increases fire risk.

  • Quick Response: The public is appealed to inform authorities immediately in case of any incident to ensure a rapid response from fire and emergency teams.
